Web content

As the project manager and one of the principal architects of the website, RaisingDeafKids.org, I have experience both in designing and writing content for the internet. Our goal in RaisingDeafKids was to provide content that would be understandable to parents with limited English skills, including adults with low literacy as well as those whose native language is not English. Working with experts in literacy, we developed interesting and useful content written at approximately a sixth-grade reading level. This was particularly challenging for material we wrote about cochlear implants and genetics, among other topics. We also created a parent-friendly design with many pictures and illustrations.

We also conducted extensive user testing of our website, refining and redesigning it according to  the needs of our users. This project was funded by the National Institute Deafness and Communication Disorders (NIDCD).

For examples of content that I wrote, see the pages on Genetics of Hearing Loss and Cochlear Implants.
